WEDNESDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT
O Clavis David
Reflect
One of the things that stands out in the life of St. Catherine of Siena is her devotion to the Precious Blood of Christ. Catherine begins her letters writing “in the Precious Blood” the way St. Paul begins his by offering grace and peace in the Lord Jesus. In one place, Catherine describes our hearts as vases that need to be filled with the Precious Blood, leaving no room for the water of our own desires. In perhaps her most striking image, she relays that Christ has unlocked the gate of heaven with his own blood. He is the key, and it is his sacrifice that opens for us the way to eternal life.
Pray
O Key of David, O royal Power of Israel, controlling at your will the gate of heaven, come, break down the prison walls of death for those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and lead your captive people into freedom. Amen.
Live
Meditate on Christ’s passion today, recalling that he offered his life for us, that we might someday dwell with him in heaven.
