Daniel 9:4b–10

REFLECT

In a moving passage, chapter nine of the Book of Daniel places complete trust in the unfailing love of God. The prophet Daniel admits to Israel’s rebellion against God’s word and disobedience to his messengers. He recognizes the justice in God’s punishment, leading to Israel’s exile among the nations. And here Daniel shows us a fundamental disposition for our prayer: acknowledgment of our sin. For it will be impossible for us to please God unless we beseech him, abandoning ourselves to his merciful love.

PRAY

Father, source of all that is good, grant me the grace to abandon myself to your mercy. Give me the courage to acknowledge my sins truthfully and make amends. Amen.

LIVE

Find a good examination of conscience. Review it in prayer, honestly seeking to be made aware of any occasions in which you rebelled against God.

We look forward to praying with you again tomorrow.
