MEMORIAL OF SAINT LUCY, VIRGIN AND MARTYR

Matthew 11:28–30

Reflect

In Sweden and other Scandinavian nations, Saint Lucy’s benevolence and valor are the focal points of celebrations held in her honor. According to tradition, Lucy provided sustenance and comfort to Christians who were concealing themselves in the catacombs during Diocletian’s persecution. To be able to carry as much assistance as possible, she donned a wreath adorned with candles that illuminated her path and freed her hands to help others.

Pray

Take us under your protection, Saint Lucy. Your name means light; lead us through the dark night of this life. You who are a bright light of virginity, heal us who are blinded by sin, that we may clearly see Christ the true Light.

Live

Today, wear something white in honor of Saint Lucy’s purity or red in honor of her martyrdom.

We look forward to continuing this journey with you tomorrow.
