SATURDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT

O Emmanuel

Reflect

In one of my favorite quotes, Pope Benedict XVI declares: “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort. You were made for greatness.” Being made for Christ means living by a law that is not necessarily easy, but it is a law that is satisfying. Following the law of Christ is the only way to true freedom. We are constantly tempted to lose ourselves in the gratifications of this world. But Christian life means looking beyond the here and now, to Christ our king. He beckons us to follow him, living not by the norms of this world, but according to the precepts of heaven.

Pray

O Emmanuel, king and lawgiver, desire of the nations, Savior of all people, come and set us free, Lord our God. Amen.

Live

Listen to the hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” which is one well-known arrangement of the verses of the O Antiphons.

We look forward to continuing this journey with you tomorrow.
