SATURDAY OF THE THIRD WEEK OF ADVENT

O Sapientia

REFLECT

Today begins the singing of the traditional O Antiphons. The antiphons sung at Vespers during the Liturgy of the Hours (and at daily Mass as the verse during the “Alleluia”) invoke the coming Messiah. They are over a thousand years old! The first verse, “O Wisdom,” begs the God of creation to come and reveal to his people the path of salvation. Recall that the earliest Christians were known as “followers of the Way.” As we pray this verse today, let us pursue Christ, desiring more complete knowledge of him, that we may follow more confidently the way to heaven.

PRAY

O Wisdom of our God Most High, guiding creation with power and love, come to teach us the path of knowledge! Amen.

LIVE

Sing the hymn “O Come, O Come, Emmanuel,” which is one well-known arrangement of the verses of the O Antiphons.

We look forward to continuing this journey with you tomorrow.
