Feast of the Holy Innocents, martyrs

1 John 1:5—2:2

REFLECT

Good versus evil. The might of heaven battling the powers of hell. The feast of the Holy Innocents places the cosmic struggle right before our very eyes. Herod’s tyranny is evident: The murder of children matters nothing to him. It’s a price he’s willing to pay to retain his power. The weeping from the slaughter of these little ones echoes down to our very day. Every time power is preferred to the care of a person; each time we privilege profit over people; whenever the weak are trampled underfoot rather than protected and loved … the carnage continues.

PRAY

Lord Jesus, may I love the little ones that you called unto your side. You, the Lord of the universe, did not fear to become small to teach us the way of your Gospel. May I never hold back from imitating you. Amen.
