Luke 11:29–32
REFLECT
Today the Church commemorates St. Peter Damian. His life was marked by discipline, prayer, and rigorous fasting. Eventually, he joined the hermitage of Fonte Avellana, where he devoted himself to prayer and study. Peter founded hermitages and even served as a peacemaker when called upon by the Holy See. Pope Stephen IX appointed him cardinal bishop of Ostia, in present-day Italy, where he worked to combat simony (the selling of Church offices) and to promote celibacy and religious discipline. An inspiring and tireless reformer, he deeply influenced religious life in the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
PRAY
Lord Jesus, like St. Peter Damian, may we find the strength to embrace self-discipline in our own lives, turning our hearts toward you in fervent prayer. Grant us the wisdom to seek solitude and study, that we may grow closer to you in understanding. Amen.
