John 8:31–42

REFLECT

Jesus teaches, “If you remain in my word, you will truly be my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (Jn 8:31–32). In some translations of Scripture, the word “set”” is rendered “make.” The truth doesn’t just release us; it builds up freedom in us. The truth makes us free. Pope St. John Paul II writes, “To those wishing to know the truth, if they can look beyond themselves and their own concerns, there is given the possibility of taking full and harmonious possession of their lives, precisely by following the path of truth.” To come to know ourselves fully, we must look beyond ourselves. We must look to Christ.

PRAY

Lord Jesus, may the light of revelation guide us to embrace the transcendent and discover the truth that makes us free. Help us recognize that the path of truth is within our reach, and grant us the wisdom to follow it always. Amen.

LIVE

Write the verse “You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” on a notecard or a Post-it note. Place the verse where you can see it at home or the office and continue to meditate on it.

We look forward to praying with you again tomorrow.
